As a student, Zakharov began forming his own unique style and perception to the world. His teachers were the great painters Lentulov, Ryzahsky, Favorskaya and Gerasimov. They instilled in Zakharov a love of the Great Russian artists of the past including the Wanderers group.
Zakharov’s talent was noticed by Sergey Gerasimov, an Honored People’s Artist of the Soviet Union, Chairman of the Fine Arts Academy of the USSR and a very influential person in the government. Gerasimov gave the young Zakharov a great deal of support, aiding both his personal and artistic growth during his student years.
